Avalon Organics thickening shampoo

Voici mon avis sur ce produit qui est l'un des plus vendus sur iherb.com : le shampooing densifiant Avalon Organics.

Here is a review of one the most sold shampoo on iherb.com: Avalon Organics thickening shampoo.

Je l'utilise depuis plusieurs semaines et je suis un peu mitigée.
I've been using it for a few weeks now and I have a mixed opinion about this product.

Les avantages :

- comme tous les produits Avalon Organics, celui-ci contient au moins 70% d'ingrédients bio et il n'y a pas de produits dangereux ou potentiellement toxiques dans sa formule (d'après ce que je peux voir du moins)
- il épaissit en effet les cheveux, même si c'est temporaire
- il est vendu dans un gros flacon de 414ml pour 7,39 dollars sur iherb.com et 5,56 dollars sur vitacost.com en ce moment (il est en promo), donc il n'est pas très onéreux
- il laisse les cheveux plutôt faciles à coiffer et brillants même s'il vaut quand même mieux utiliser un après-shampooing

Les inconvénients :

- il n'est pas adapté aux cheveux plutôt gras car dès le deuxième jour on les sent lourds (pas vraiment gras mais quand même)
- on est censé voir un effet à long terme sur l'épaisseur et la pousse du cheveu mais franchement j'en doute car on le rince après seulement une ou deux minutes... à suivre

Pros :

- As with all Avalon Organics products, this one contains at least 70% organic ingredients and it has no harmful or dubious ingredients (from what I can tell anyway).
- it leaves your hair feeling thicker indeed even if the effect is temporary
- it is sold in a big 14fl oz bottle for 7.39 dollars on iherb.com and 5.56 dollars on vitacost.com at the moment (it's on sale) so it is not expensive
- it leaves your hair shiny and rather easy to comb even if I still advise using a conditioner.


Cons :

- this is not adapted for hair that is on the greasy side as it feels heavy by the second day (not really greasy but still not a very pleasant feeling, or look for that matter).
- it boasts to have  a long-term effect on thickness and hair growth but as it is rinced after only a few minutes... well, I doubt it but I'll keep you posted!

Voici mon dernier haul aroma-zone.com, composé quasi-exclusivement de produits que je rachète régulièrement.

Here is my lastest aroma-zone.com haul, which consists almost exclusively in products that I regularly repurchase.

Désolée pour les photos, le temps est tellement pourri qu'il est difficile d'avoir des clichés de qualité.
I'm sorry for the crap pictures, the weather is so gloomy that it is hard to get quality photos.

 

Dans mon colis, il y avait :

 

- du gel d'aloe vera : je m'en sers comme ingrédient dans certaines crèmes maison, mais il peut également être utilisé pur sur les coups de soleil en particulier (si tant est qu'un jour il y ait du soleil).

 

- de l'eau de fleur d'oranger : je m'en sers comme tonique sur un coton ou en pulvérisation, elle sent divinement bon et est parfaite pour ma peau sensible qu'elle apaise. En plus, je l'utilise beaucoup en cuisine dans la pâte à crêpes ou dans les brioches, un délice.

 

- de l'eau d'hamamelis : c'est un tonique purifiant, il est très bien pour les peaux grasses et je l'utilise également parfois à la place de l'eau dans les crèmes maison.

 

- une fragrance naturelle 'sweet candy' : je suis un peu déçue car je m'attendais à une senteur plus caramélisée alors qu'elle a l'odeur de la barbe à papa. Je m'en servirai quand même mais ce n'est pas ma favorite. Il faut l'ajouter à une préparation maison ou à une huile végétale (c'est ce que je fais le plus fréquemment).

 

- de l'huile essentielle de lavande vraie : j'ai fini le flacon que j'avais. Elle me sert à tout : en cas de brûlure, de piqûre d'insecte, de petit bouton, d'irritation, de maux de têtes.... Elle peut être appliquée directement sur la peau (contrairement à la plupart des huiles essentielles).

 

In the parcel there was:

 

- some aloe vera gel: I use it as an ingredient in some of my homemade preparations but you can also use it straight from the bottle on sunburns for example (should the sun ever shine again in my region!).

 

- a bottle of orange blossom water: I use it as a toner on a cotton pad or in a spray bottle, it smells divine and is perfect for my sensitive skin as it is very calming. Besides, it's yummy in pancakes and brioches!

 

- a bottle of witch hazel water: this does not contain any alcohol, it's very gentle, yet purifying so that it is great for oily skin. I sometimes use it instead of water in homemade creams and it makes a great toner.

 

- 'sweet candy' natural fragrance: I was a bit disappointed with this one as I thought it would smell of caramel. It does not. It smells of spun sugar. Nice but not what I expected. I usually use these fragrances in homemade creams or mixed with vegetable oils.

 

- lavender essential oil (lavandula angustifolia): I repurchase systematically every time I run out. If I had to choose just one essential oil, this would be it. I use it on sunburns, insect bites, rashes, irritation, for headaches... It can be used straight on the skin (unlike most essential oils).

 

- trois sachets de henné, deux de henné d'Egypte et un de henné noir d'Iran : je n'utilise aucun produit chimique sur mes cheveux, la seule façon de couvrir les cheveux blancs (et d'apporter de jolis reflets) est donc d'avoir recours au henné. J'ai les cheveux châtains, assez foncés et le mélange parfait pour moi est le suivant : 50% noir d'Iran, 50% henné d'Egypte. Je laisse poser au moins deux heures sous un bonnet de douche pour avoir un résultat assez intense et durable. Les cheveux blancs sont quasiment entièrement couverts par le henné d'Egypte et l'association avec le henné noir permet d'avoir une couleur très naturelle (je n'ai aucune envie de virer à l'orange) avec quand même de jolis reflets cuivrés. Ensuite rincer abondamment mais ne pas laver les cheveux, cela prolonge la vie de la couleur. Attention, cela a tendance à dessécher les cheveux, prévoir un masque hydratant quelques jours plus tard.

 

- three bags of henna powder, two of red henna from Egypt and one of black henna from Iran: I only use natural products on my hair so the only way to cover white hair is with these plant powders. My perfect mix is 50% red henna 50% black henna (I am a brunette). You mix these with hot water until you get a paste, apply it on your hair (wet or dry as you want), cover your hair and leave it on for at least two hours (if you want to get a lasting result). Red henna covers almost all white hairs and black henna ensures that the result looks really natural (I don't want to end up with orange hair!) with nice coppery highlights. Then you rinse for at least five minutes to get all the product out but do not use shampoo. It will prolong the life of your color. This has a tendency to dry out your hair though so you should do a hydrating hair mask a few days later.

 

Bee naturals : bain de bouche blanchissant avant brossage / whitening pre-brush oral rinse

Qui ne veut pas de dents plus blanches? Et bien en tous les cas pas moi! En quête du sourire ultrabright, j'ai testé le bain de bouche blanchissant avant brossage de Bee Naturals.

Who does not want whiter teeth? Not me in any case! In quest of an ultrabright smile, I have tested the whitening pre-brush oral rinse (that's quite a mouthful!) from Bee Naturals.

En voici la composition :
Here is its ingredient list!

Purified water, hydrogen peroxide, 3%, U.S.P., vegetable glycerin, potassium sorbate, chlorophyll, natural spearmint oil, xylitol, stevia, (natural plant sweetener), propolis

L'agent blanchissant est donc le peroxyde d'oxygène.
As you can tell, the whitening agent is the oxygen peroxide.

Il s'utilise comme son nom l'indique avant le brossage pendant 1 à 2 minutes. Alors je dois vous dire qu'il ne faut pas dépasser le temps recommandé sous peine d'avoir les gencives franchement sensibles (et oui, vous l'aurez deviné, j'ai essayé). A cette condition là, pas de problème de sensibilité. Par contre je ne suis pas impressionnée par le résultat. Je l'utilise depuis environ 3 semaines une fois par jour et je n'ai constaté aucun changement notable. Je n'ai pas non plus les dents très jaunes, peut-être ce produit est-il plus utile si vous avez les dents plus 'colorées' que les miennes.

You are supposed to use it before you brush for one to two minutes. I have to tell you that it is really better not to overdo it unless you want supersentitive gums (and yes you guessed it I tried using it for about 3-4 minutes. NOT a good idea). If you respect the recommended time, you should have no sensitivity issue. The problem is that I have not been impressed by the results. I have been using it once a day for the past 3 weeks and I have not seen any noticeable difference in the shade of my teeth. Granted I do not have horribly yellow teeth but I still expected to see more whiteness. It might be more effective if you have more 'colored' teeth than mine.

Il laisse un goût très désagréable en bouche mais il faut se laver les dents tout de suite après donc ce n'est pas vraiment un problème.

It leaves an unpleasant taste behind but luckily you are supposed to brush straight after so that is not really a problem.

En conclusion je ne peux pas vous recommander ce produit car je ne le trouve pas efficace. Si vous l'avez testé laissez moi un commentaire pour me dire ce que vous en avez pensé!

The bottom line is that I cannot recommend this product to you as I find it insufficiently efficient. If you have tried it, let me know in the comment section what you thought!

Alba Botanica : Gommage corps hawaien / Hawaiian body polish

Aujourd'hui je passe en revue le gommage hawaïen pour le corps au sucre de Alba Botanica. Je l'utilise depuis un bon moment maintenant donc je peux vous dire en détail ce que j'en pense.

Today I'm going to review the Hawaiian Body Polish by Alba botanica, which is a sugar body scrub. I've been using it for quite a while now so I can give you my opinion in detail.

 

Avantages :

 

- en tout premier lieu, l'odeur délicieuse qui s'en dégage! Il sent bon la crème brûlée, j'adore. Si vous n'êtes pas fan de parfums sucrés passez votre chemin.

 

- sa composition : mis à part le parfum justement qui n'est peut être pas naturel (ce n'est pas précisé sur l'étiquette), les ingrédients sont 'propres'.

 

- la concentration : il en faut peu, je l'utilise une à deux fois pas semaine et le pot est encore presque plein.

 

- l'effet : il gomme très bien et comme il est à base de sucre les grains finissent par se dissoudre donc il n'est pas agressif (et j'ai pourtant la peau sensible). Double effet kisscool, il reste sur la peau un film d'huile après la douche qui laisse l'épiderme très doux et bien hydraté. De plus, le parfum perdure quelques heures.

 

- le prix : 7,80 dollars pour 280g chez iherb.com. Vous le trouverez aussi chez Vitacost.com.

 

 

Inconvénients :

 

Je ne lui en trouve aucun si ce n'est que l'on peut obtenir le même résultat en mélangeant soi-même du sucre de canne à des huiles pour un coût inférieur.

 

Pros:

 

- first of all it smells like crème brûlée! If you are not a fan of sugary scents, this one is clearly not for you.

 

- its ingredient list: apart from the fragrance which may or may not be natural (it is not precised), everything is clean.

 

- it's concentrated: I use it once or twice a week and I still have a lot left.

 

- it's effective: it gives you a good scrub but it's not agressive (and I have sensitive skin). Besides, as it is sugar-based the grains dissolve after a while leaving an oily film behind. When you step out of the shower your skin is super soft and well moisturised (but not sticky in any way) and the scent lasts a couple of hours on the skin.

 

- its price: it costs 7.80 dollars on iherb.com where I bought it but you can also find it on Vitacost.com.

 

Cons:

 

- to me there are none except that if you are courageous you can whip up this kind of product yourself for an even lower price by mixing sugar cane with vegetable oils.

NOTD : essence queen of my cloud castle

Aujourd'hui je vous présente... mes pieds! Ou plutôt mon pied droit orné d'un très joli verni : le Essence Queen of my cloud castle de la collection Fantasia. Je sais que Essence est vendu aux Etats-unis et dans certains magasins Auchan en France (et bien sûr en Allemagne chez DM) mais sinon on peut facilement trouver ce verni sur ebay allemagne. La liste des ingrédients est consultable sur leur site essence.eu même si il faut chercher un peu pour la dégoter. La grande majorité de leur vernis ne contient aucune des substances les plus nocives (y compris le triphenyl phosphate, la résine de formaldehyde, le benzophenone-1 et le camphre) et leurs prix sont riquiquis.

Let me introduce you to... my feet! Or rather my right foot adorned with a lovely nail polish : Essence Queen of my Cloud Castle from the Fantasia collection. I know that Essence is sold in the USA and in some Auchan stores in France (and of course in Germany in DM stores) but otherwise, this polish can be easily found on Ebay Germany. The list of ingredients is available on their site essence.eu even if you have to really look for it. The vast majority of their nail polish contains none of the most agressive chemicals (including triphenyl phosphate, folmaldehyde resin, benzophenone-1 and camphor) and their prices are really low.

Dans la réalité il s'agit d'un rose pétant presque fluo, il sera parfait avec des sandales (quand les températures me permettront d'en mettre!).

In person it is a bright almost neon pink. It will be perfect with sandals (when the temperatures will be high enough for me to wear some!).

Nouvelle jupe nautique / New nautical skirt

Aujourd'hui je vous révèle quelque chose de moi-même : je couds mes vêtements. Comme la saison chaude va arriver un jour où l'autre où j'habite (espérons que c'est pour bientôt, j'en ai vraiment assez des jours froids et humides), j'ai commencé à travailler sur ma garde-robe d'été.

 

Here is something you did not know about me: I sew my own clothes. As the warmer season will arrive one day where I live (preferably sooner than later, I'm getting tired of cold rainy days), I have started working on my summer wardrobe.

 

Voici ma dernière création : une jupe d'inspiration nautique, en jean bleu foncé et surpiqûres blanches (pour celles qui aiment coudre, le modèle vient du burda de février 2010, c'est le 104).

 

Here is my last creation: an a-line nautical skirt in dark blue jean and white stitching (for those who like to sew, this is model 104 from the burda magazine of February 2010).

 

J'ai doublé les poches avec un tissu que j'ai utilisé pour faire une robe d'été (mais je vous en reparlerai dans un autre message).

 

I have lined the pockets with the fabric I used to make a summer dress (but more about that in another post).

Hugo Naturals : la trousse de voyage / travelling set

J'ai profité de mon voyage en Italie pour tester la trousse de voyage Hugo Naturals Vanille/Orange douce (il y a aussi un kit à la lavande pour ceux qui préfèrent).
Il contient un baume pour les lèvres taille normale et des produits en taille voyage : un gel douche, un shampooing, un après-shampooing, un lait pour le corps et une brume parfumante.

While on holiday in Italy I tested the Vanilla / Sweet Orange travelling set from Hugo Naturals (there is also a lavender set for those who may prefer). It contains a full-size lipbalm and travelling sizes of  their shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and perfume mist.

J'ai tout testé excepté le baume à lèvres (j'en ai un autre à finir). Deux remarques générales d'abord : le parfum des produits rappelle celui des fêtes de fin d'année, plutôt cannelle orange que vanille orange (enfin c'est mon avis) et ce sont des produits entièrement naturels.

I tested everything except the lipbalm (I have another one I need to finish first). Two general remarks first: the perfume of the products reminds me of end-of-year holidays ; to me it is more cinammon/orange than vanilla/orange, secondly these are all-natural products.

Voici ce que j'en pense :

- la brume parfumante : sans alcool, elle est hydratante car à base de gel d'aloe vera. On sent bon pendant quelques heures pas plus, mais on peut facilement réappliquer. C'est un bon produit que j'aimerais voir décliné dans plusieurs senteurs (il existe également à la lavande mais c'est tout). Pour moi c'est plus une fragrance pour l'automne ou l'hiver.
- le lait pour le corps : il a tout bon. Très concentré et pourtant fluide, bien hydratant mais pas collant. Un sans faute.
- le shampooing volumateur : là encore un très bon produit bien concentré qui sent bon et laisse les cheveux légers et avec plus de volume.
- l'après-shampooing : il ne m'a pas plu. La texture en est extrêmement fluide donc on en gâche beaucoup et je ne l'ai pas trouvé très efficace. Suis-je tombé sur un mauvais flacon?
- le gel douche : excellent. Très concentré, il sent très bon et n'agresse pas la peau.

Here is what I think:

- the essential mist: it does not contain alcohol and it is hydrating thanks to its aloe vera base. It will leave you smelling nice for a couple of hours, no more but you can reapply as often as you like. It's a good product and I wish they made it in other smells too (there is a lavender version but that's that). For me it is more of an autumn/winter scent.
- the body lotion : it ticks all the boxes for me. It's very concentrated but fluid, it hydrates but does not leave a sticky residue and it smells lovely.
- the volumizing shampoo : once again a very good product. It's concentrated, it smells good and leaves you hair light and volumized.
- the conditioner : I did not heart this. The texture is so fluid that it runs between your fingers which means that you need a lot of product. Also, I did not find it very efficient. Was it just a bad bottle?
- the shower gel : love. Concentrated, smells nice and cleanses well without stripping your skin.

Presque un sans faute donc, je rachèterai certainement certains de ces produits mais plutôt pour la saison froide, en ce moment j'ai envie de senteurs encore plus fraîches.

My conclusion is : almost a clear round! I will repurchase some of these products but probably for the cold season. At the moment I'm all about super fresh scents.

Italy I love you!

Si vous passez pas là de temps en temps, vous aurez remarqué que j'ai peu voire pas posté ces derniers jours et il y a une raison à cela. Comme chaque année, nous étions partis en Italie, pays que j'adore. Nous changeons d'endroit à chaque séjour, cette fois ci nous étions sur les bords du lac d'Iseo.

If you visit my blog from time to time, you may have noticed that I have not posted much these last few days and there is a very good reason to that. We were in Italy, a country that I love and where we go every year (but always to a different place). This time we stayed on the border of the Iseo Lake.

Nous avons eu beaucoup de pluie, ce qui ne nous a pas empêché de profiter de la région et des bonnes choses, y compris les délicieuses glaces italiennes!

The weather was very rainy, which dit not prevent us from enjoying the region and the delicious Italian food, including the best icecreams in the world!

Encore une fois de bons souvenirs et des températures douces quand le temps était à la pluie et carrément chaudes dès que le soleil apparaissait (en comparaison, il a neigé là où j'habite pendant que nous étions partis, nous ne sommes pourtant qu'à 4 heures et demie de route de Bergame!).

 

One again we left with good memories and we enjoyed the mild temperatures when it was raining and the warm ones when the sun decided to come up (in comparison, it snowed where I live while we were away and it is only a 4 and a half hours drive to Bergamo!).
