Voici mes trois livres favoris pour le mois de juillet.
Here are my three favorite books for the month of July.
Le premier est un livre de science-fiction : Across the Universe de Beth Revis. C'est censé être un livre pour les jeunes adultes. J'ai malheureusement dépassé cette tranche d'âge (enfin peut-être pas dans ma tête tout compte fait!) mais j'ai beaucoup aimé cette dystopie. Il y a du mystère, c'est bien écrit, on est tout de suite plongé dans l'histoire et il est difficile de poser le livre avant la fin. Finalement c'est d'ailleurs la chute qui m'a un peu déçue d'abord car pour connaître la suite de l'histoire il faut acheter le prochain tome (ce que je ne savais pas au départ) et ensuite parce qu'elle m'a semblé un peu simplette par rapport au reste du roman. Je vous le recommande tout de même, c'est un très bon divertissement.
The first is a sci-fi novel : Across the universe by Beth Revis. It's supposed to be a YA novel but even though I sadly no longer belong to this part of the population (although I suspect I will always be 17 in my head) I enjoyed this dystopia very much. There is mystery, it's well written and the book is simply hard to put down. The end did disappoint me a little bit though, first of all because you have to buy the second book to know what happens next and second because I found it a little simple especially in comparison with the rest of the story. I still warmly recommend this book to you, it is very entertaining.
Le second est un roman que je trouve vraiment à part : The lost art of keeping secrets de Eva Rice. En français il s'agit de l'amour comme par hasard. C'est un livre étonnant (pour moi en tous les cas). Pendant la majeure partie de l'histoire il ne se passe quasiment rien, on est plongé dans une époque et un lieu (Londres dans les années 50), on est témoin des relations qui se tissent entre les personnages tous issus de la bourgeoisie ou de la noblesse (désargentée) et ce qui pourrait être bien fade et bien inintéressant se révèle passionnant. Cerise sur le gâteau, l'histoire se développe enfin en un bouquet final qui m'a ravi. Ce n'est certainement pas le genre de livre que j'apprécie habituellement mais c'est très bien écrit, les personnages sont très bien campés et nous permettent de comprendre les sentiments de toute une partie de la société londonienne de l'époque.
The second is a book that I find hard to classify. The lost art of keeping secrets by Eva Rice is a surprising book. During most of the story very little happens. We are plunged into London in the 50s and follow the characters (who belong to the cash-strapped aristocracy or bourgeoisie) and see how their relationships and feelings evolve. What could be a very drab novel is in fact super interesting. On top of that the story finally unfolds in one big final bouquet. It is not the kind of book I usually read but I enjoyed it a lot. It's very well written, the characters are delightful and they allow you to take a sneek peak into an era and the feelings of the people of that time.
Le troisième est un roman policier un peu différent : A moment of silence de Anna Dean. L'histoire se passe en 1805 et le personnage principal est une femme qui mène l'enquête sur un meurtre. Il y a des passages épistolaires où l'auteure reprend les codes et le vocabulaire de l'époque. Là encore c'est très bien écrit, on ne s'ennuie pas une minute et il y a du mystère jusqu'à la fin car l'histoire est complexe. Ce livre m'a donné très envie de lire les deux autres. Si vous aimez les romans de Jane Austen et les romans policiers, celui-ci devrait vous plaire. Je n'ai pas été tentée, contrairement à d'autres fois, de sauter quelques passages pour arriver plus vite au dénouement. Je me suis délectée de chaque ligne!
The last one is a mystery novel with a twist: A moment of silence by Anna Dean is set in 1805 in Britain and the main character is a woman who investigates a murder. There are epistolary passages in which the author respects the codes and the vocabulary of the time. Again, it is well written, there is no time to get bored as there is mystery until the very end of the book as the story is quite complex. Now I really want to read the other two books that feature the same character. If you like Jane Austen and mystery books, this one should delight you. I was not tempted, unlike with some other crime novels, to skip some passages to get to the final reveal faster. On the contrary I enjoyed every single line!
