Le savon au beurre de karité de Nubian Heritage : J'adore son odeur (il sent l'encens et la myrrhe) mais aussi le fait qu'il dure très longtemps et ne déssèche pas la peau.

Les pastilles homéopathiques calmantes Historical remedies : je suis toujours stressée mais je me soigne entre autre en essayant des remèdes homéopathiques comme celui-ci. Pour l'instant je ne les ai pas testées, je vous dirai donc ce que j'en pense plus tard.

Historical remedies homeopathic calm drops : I'm still stressed out but I have been trying to find several ways to releave my stress including these homeopathic lozenges. I have not put them to the test yet but I will keep you posted.

Les infusions relaxantes Triple Leaf : Encore un essai pour m'aider à me relaxer à la fin d'une longue journée. J'aime vraiment beaucoup cette infusion et en effet je trouve qu'elle m'aide à me détendre même si ce n'est pas un remède miracle. Elle contient des plantes comme la camomille, la valériane et le fruit de la passion qui sont bien connues pour être calmantes.

Triple leaf relaxing tea : Do you see a pattern there? Yes, that's another way to unwind at the end of a long day. I really like the taste of this herbal tea and I do find it relaxing even if it is not a miracle cure. It contains herbs such as chamomile, valerian and passionfruit which are all known to be calming.

Badger Organic Stress soother Tangerine and Rosemary : C'est un baume que l'on peut appliquer où on le souhaite mais principalement sur les tempes, les mains... J'ai été un peu déçue je m'attendais à une odeur beaucoup plus forte, je ne pense pas que cela puisse beaucoup m'aider à me détendre mais je l'utiliserais quand même, il est entièrement naturel et permet d'hydrater la peau (attention, c'est gras!). J'adore le packaging rétro et mignon!

Badger Organic Stress soother Tangerine and Rosemary: I'm sure you are all familiar with badger balms. You can apply them where you like but mainly on temples, hands... I was a little bit disappointed because the smell is quite faint, I was expecting something much stronger. As a result I do not think that this can help me relax but I will still use it up, it is natural and hydrates your skin (beware, this is a greasy product!). And what a cute tin!

Bigelow tea mint medley: C'est une infusion à la menthe douce et à la menthe poivrée. Le goût est vraiment prononcé, elle ne contient pas d'arôme et est vraiment de grande qualité. Je vous la recommande chaudement si vous aimez la menthe. Elle est délicieuse!

Bigelow tea mint medley: it's a spearmint and peppermint herbal tea. It has a really strong minty taste to it, yet does not contain any flavor. It is very high quality and I really recommend it if you like mint. It's delicious!

- The natural dentist healthy white pre-brush rinse : c'est un bain de bouche avant brossage qui est censé blanchir les dents. Honnêtement je n'ai rien constaté niveau blancheur par contre c'est agréable à utiliser et permet d'enlever en grande partie les particules coincées entre les dents. Laisse un bon goût de menthe en bouche (mais on se lave les dents après de toutes les façons). Si vous n'avez pas beaucoup de temps ce n'est pas un produit indispensable à une bonne hygiène dentaire. Il est entièrement naturel.

- The natural dentisit healthy white pre-brush rinse : I did not notice any whitening of my teeth but it's pleasant to use and removes most of the particles stuck between teeth before brushing. It leaves a nice minty taste behind (but you brush your teeth afterwards anyway). This is not an indispensable step for a good oral hygiene if you don't have the time. It's a completely natural product.

- the natural dentist whitening toothpaste : Je l'ai acheté par erreur. Il contient du fluor et je préfère les dentifrice sans fluor. Je l'ai quand même utilisé, il est agréablement mentholé (menthe douce) mais il ne blanchit pas les dents.

- the natural dentist whitening toothpaste : I bought it by mistake. It contains fluoride and I normally avoid fluoride in toothpastes. I used it up anyway, it is nicely minty but it does not whiten your teeth.

- Giovanni Golden Wheat Deep Cleanse Shampoo : un autre produit acheté par erreur car il contient du phenoxyethanol. Avec les produits Giovanni j'ai appris à mes dépens qu'il faut lire l'étiquette de chaque produit avec une grande attention. Certains sont 'propres', d'autres non. A part cela c'est un bon shampooing qui fleure bon la menthe et qui nettoie bien.

- Giovanni Golden Wheat Deep Cleanse Shampoo : another product bought by mistake as it contains phenoxyethanol. With Giovanni products you really have to read every single label. Some products are clean, others are not. Apart from that it is a good shampoo that smells pleasantly minty and cleanses well.

- Mychelle fabulous eye cream : J'ai vraiment aimé cette crème contour des yeux. Je la rachèterai si je la trouve en promotion car elle coûte assez cher. Elle est assez efficace, ne pique pas les yeux et pénètre rapidement.

- Mychelle fabulous eye cream : I really liked using this cream. I will repurchase if it is on sale as it is quite pricey. It's relatively efficient, does not sting your eyes and sinks in rapidly.

Tout d'abord je vous souhaite à tous une excellente année, pleine de joie et de bonheur bien sûr et beaucoup de courage si vous devez affronter des épreuves!

First of all I would like to wish all of you a happy new year, I hope it will be filled with joy and happiness but if it should so happen that you have to go through rough times, I also want to wish you a lot of courage!

Cette année j'ai découvert les jolis bijoux de Shlomit Ofir, une créatrice israélienne et je suis tombée amoureuses de son travail. Ses bijoux sont féminins et délicats mais aussi très contemporains et de bon goût! Il y en a pour tout le monde je vous invite à aller faire un tour sur son site et je vous présente ci-dessous quelques-uns de mes coups de cœur.

De temps en temps j'aime bien lire des Cozy Mysteries c'est à dire des enquêtes policières faites par des quidams (qui vous rappelleront fatalement quelqu'un de votre entourage) et dont on partage aussi les petits moments agréables (ou moins agréables d'ailleurs!) de la vie. Ce sont des lectures faciles dans lesquelles il y a peu de détails sanglants.

From time to time I enjoy reading cozy mysteries. In this kind of books the 'mysteries' are solved by normal people that are bound to remind you of someone you know. You also get to share happy (and not so happy) moments of their lives. They are just very easy reads and do not feature many gory details.

Ma série favorite en ce moment est celle des 'Flower shop mystery' de Kate Collins. Voici un lien vers le premier de la série Slay it with flowers. C'est bien écrit, on rit, on ne connaît pas l'assassin avant la fin et on a toujours envie de lire le prochain. Essayez mais attention, vous risquez de devenir accro!
Ces livres ne sont hélas pas disponibles en français à ma connaissance.

My favorite series at the moment is that of 'the Flower Shop mystery' by Kate Collins. Here is a link to the first book of the series: Slay it with flowers. It's really well written it's funny, you don't get to find the murderer before the last few pages and you will always want to read the next one. Try it, it's addictive!

Silk Naturals haul!

J'ai reçu ma dernière commande Silk Naturals. Je ne peux pas faire beaucoup de swatches car tous ces articles sauf un sont destinés à être offerts à Noël!

Days of the week complete eye wardrobe : 8 ombres à paupières, dont une pour chaque jour de la semaine de lundi à vendredi (assez discrètes) et trois autres un peu plus festives pour le weekend! Les couleurs paraissent toutes très portables, je suis sûre que c'est un cadeau qui va plaire.

Voici les derniers achats que j'ai fait sur iherb.
Here are my latest iherb purchases.

Skin Factors : C'est un complément alimentaire pour améliorer l'aspect de la peau. Je n'ai aucun problème d'acné mais j'ai la peau plutôt grasse, sensible et avec le changement de saison elle est plus moche que d'habitude. Je vais tester et je vous dirai ensuite ce que j'en pense.

Skin Factors: It's a food supplement recommended to improve your skin. I have no problem with acne but my skin is rather greasy, sensitive and with the changing weather it's really not looking its best. I am going to test this out and I will report on it later.

Nubian Heritage raw shea butter lotion : C'est une lotion pour le corps au beurre de karité (et qui sent l'encens et la myrrhe). J'adore cette marque qui fait des produits complètement naturels qui sentent très bons et sont très efficaces (dont une lotion à la noix de coco et à la papaye).

Avalon Organics CoQ10 repair lotion : C'est la lotion qui va avec le meilleur démaquillant du monde (voire revue ici) et je ne la connais pas encore.

Avalon Organics CoQ10 repair lotion: It's the lotion that goes with the best makeup remover in the world (see review here) but I have never tried it before.

The Deep Steep body butter tangerine-melon : J'adore ces lotions entièrement naturelles, bien riches et qui sentent délicieusement bon.

La vérité sur la vérité sur l'affaire Harry Québert / The truth about the truth about the Harry Quebert Affair

As usual this post is both in English and in French for the benefit of all my lovely international readers!

Voici mon opinion sur La vérité sur l'affaire Harry Quebert de Joël Dicker. Pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas, c'est le deuxième livre du suisse Joël Dicker (un beau gosse de 28 ans voir photo ci-dessous!). Il a reçu le Prix Goncourt des Lycéens et le Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française en 2012 et est très vite devenu un best-seller.

Here are my two cents about The truth about the Harry Quebert Affair by Joel Dicker. For those of you who are not familiar with this very much hyped-up novel, it is the second book by swissman Joel Dicker (28 and a looker! see picture above). It received the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens and the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française in 2012 (both in France) and was an instant best-seller.

 

Je dois vous dire que je n'ai pas aimé. Au point que j'ai du faire un réel effort pour le finir. Je vois bien cependant pourquoi il a suscité tant de réactions et pourquoi il peut plaire aux lecteurs. C'est un livre inhabituel, difficile voire impossible à classer. Est-ce une étude de personnages, un livre policier, une critique de la société américaine et du monde des auteurs et de l'édition ou encore un livre sur le fait que les apparences se révèlent souvent trompeuses? Probablement tout à la fois.

 

Mais ce n'est pas le problème que j'ai eu avec ce roman. Je n'en ai pas aimé le style. Je l'ai lu en français, langue dans laquelle il a été rédigé mais j'ai eu l'impression de lire une traduction de qualité très moyenne d'un livre en anglais. Sans compter que l'intrigue met très longtemps avant de décoller (même si au final l'intrigue n'est pas au cœur du roman).... Enfin je n'ai pas aimé l'histoire en elle même, elle m'a mis mal  l'aise et m'a par cela rappelé Lolita de Vladimir Nabokov.

Si vous avez lu ce livre j'aimerais beaucoup avoir votre avis dessus, laissez moi donc un commentaire!

 

I have to tell you I did not like this book. So much so that I had to make an effort to finish it. Still I can see why it created such a buzz and why it can appeal to many readers. It is an unusual novel, hard if not impossible to classify. Is it more a study of characters, a detective story, a critique of the American society and of the world of authors and publishing companies or a book about deceiving appearances? Probably all of these at the same time.  

 

But this was not the problem I had with it. The main thing was that I did not like the writing. I read it in French, the native language of Joel Dicker and I felt as if I was reading a bad translation of a book orginally written in English. And it took such a long time for the intrigue to take off.... Also, I did not like the story in itself, it left me feeling very uneasy and in that reminded me very much of Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. I
