Je viens vous livrer mon impression sur ce produit, Alba Botanica un-petroleum Jelly, que j'utilise depuis plusieurs semaines et que j'ai acheté sur www.vitacost.com (bon de réduction en bas du post).

A l'origine je l'avais commandé pour me démaquiller les yeux car j'avais regardé une vidéo de vlogwithkendra qui le recommandait pour cet usage et j'arrivais au bout de mon produit précédent.
I had originally ordered it to remove my eye makeup after watching a video of vlogwithkendra who recommended it for this use (and I was almost out of my regular product).

Alors manifestement plusieurs personnes peuvent avoir des avis diamétralement opposés sur un produit. Je ne recommande absolument pas celui-ci pour le démaquillage :
Well, obviously different people can have different opinons. I would never recommend this product to remove eye makeup.

La texture est très épaisse (comme de la vaseline), se répartit difficilement et a tendance à tirer la peau, jamais une bonne chose, surtout autour des yeux.
The texture is very thick (like petroleum Jelly or maybe even thicker) which makes it difficult to spread and it tends to tug at skin which is never a good thing especially around eyes.
Ensuite j'ai remarqué que même en y passant du temps j'avais vraiment du mal à retirer tout le mascara. Hors je souhaite un résultat impeccable pour pouvoir me coucher la peau nette (et me réveiller sans yeux cernés de mascara!!). Le seul point positif est qu'il ne pique pas les yeux.
I also noticed that even if I spent quite a lot of time removing makeup I could not get rid of all my mascara. This is a real problem for me: when I go to bed I want to have perfectly clean skin (and I don't want to wake up with racoon eyes!!). The only positive point is that it does not sting.

Cependant ce produit a d'autres utilisations :
J'ai été récemment enrhumée et je l'ai trouvé très efficace contre les irritations sous le nez (pas glamour mais qui n'a jamais eu ce problème, hein??). Il est bien aussi pour les cuticules et plus généralement partout où l'on a la peau très sèche ou irritée. Attention il n'est constitué que de corps gras, pas question donc de s'en tartiner le visage ou le corps!

But I have found that it can be used for other things :
I recently had a bad cold and it was remarkably efficient against the irritation that I got under my nose (not glamorous but who has not experienced this???). It is also a good product for cuticles and more generally anywhere your skin is really dry or irritated. As it is solely composed of greasy ingredients I strongly advise you against using it on your whole face or body.

Pendant mes vacances / During my holidays #2 : J'ai tricoté du jaune / I knitted in yellow

Pendant les vacances, j'aime bien emmener un tricot. Cette année j'avais des pelotes jaunes à écouler, j'ai donc réalisé une paire de chaussettes et une circle scarf (écharpe infinie).
During my holidays I like to bring along something to knit. This year I had a few balls of yellow yarn to use up so I made a pair of comfy socks and a circle scarf.

Les chaussettes viennent de ce livre que je vous ai déjà présenté je crois.
The socks come from this book that I have already mentioned I think.

Le modèle est très simple et rapide à tricoter (en aiguilles du 4), parfait si vous n'êtes pas le champion de la chaussette et que les aiguilles du 2 vous font peur!
This is a very simple model to knit (in size 5 needles), perfect if you are not the champion of socks and if size 0 needles make you want to run away.

Le modèle s'appelle 'cozy armchair socks' et en effet elles sont super confortables. Elles ne sont pas encore parfaites car ce n'est que la première paire que je tricote mais j'ai bien compris le truc maintenant je crois.
These 'cozy armchair socks' are indeed very cozy. Mine are not perfect but they were the first that I made and I think I got the hang of it now.

J'adore les textes de ce bouquin, ils donnent vraiment envie de s'y mettre!
I love the texts in this book, they really make you want to start knitting!

La circle scarf est réversible, chose que je n'avais pas remarqué avant de la terminer et c'est vraiment un plus puisqu'on la retourne forcément pour faire un deuxième tour autour du cou.
It is reversible, something I had not noticed until I finished the scarf (!) and it's really a plus as you necessarily expose both sides when you wrap it around your neck.

 

De quoi donner un peu de couleur à l'hiver (toujours long dans mon coin du monde).

This will give my long winter a little bit of color.

Pendant mes vacances / During my holidays.... # 1 : Switzerland

Pendant mes vacances, j'ai visité la Suisse et plus précisément les cantons du Valais et du Berner Oberland. Eh bien franchement je ne me doutais pas à quel point la Suisse est un pays beau et exotique!

During my holidays I visited Switzerland and more precisely the Valais and Berner Oberland Cantons. Quite frankly I had no idea it was such a beautiful and exotic (yes!) country.

Les paysages sont vraiment magnifiques avec des endroits très préservés comme la forêt d'Aletsch, et des reliefs à couper le souffle. Il y en a pour tous les goûts que l'on aime la randonnée (il y a des chemins partout!), le ski (même l'été bien sûr dans des stations comme Saas Fee), le tourisme culturel (avec des villages anciens de toute beauté), ou le farniente (dans les bains thermaux de Leukerbad ou de Brigerbad). J'avais loué un châlet d'alpages pour la première semaine et un appartement dans une maison pour la deuxième et nous avons été merveilleusement bien accueillis. Les tarifs de location ne sont pas chers, après on est tout de même en Suisse donc la nourriture et les visites peuvent faire un peu mal au porte-monnaie mais si on fait la cuisine et qu'on aime la nature, il n'y a vraiment pas besoin de rouler sur l'or pour passer des moments vraiment très agréables.

The landscapes are just breathtaking. There is something for everyone whether you like hiking (there are trails everywhere), skiing (even in summer of course in resorts such as Saas Fee), cultural visits (there are beautiful villages with wooden huts dating back to the 15th century), or farniente (with thermal baths in Leukerbad or Brigerbad for example).
I had rented a smal alp hut for the first week and an apartment in a house for the second week and local people were extremely welcoming, which was one of the perks of our stay. The rental prices are very reasonable, even cheaper than in France I found. This being said, this is Switzerland so food and visits can get pricey. But if you cook and if you like nature, no need to be rich to spend an amazing time in this country.

J'en ai profité pour rafraîchir mon allemand même si le Suisse Allemand c'est un peu difficile à comprendre! Cela a été l'occasion d'apprendre le vocabulaire local. Nous avons découvert d'autres habitudes, par exemple les sacs poubelles taxés pour inciter au tri sélectif. Cela marche très bien mais les habitants se plaignent des tarifs élevés pour ces sacs obligatoires pour les ordures non recyclées. Et bien sûr nous avons goûté les spécialités locales (späzlis, röstis, cordons bleus faits maison...).
Bref un séjour très enrichissant, nous pensons même retourner dans le valais (notre coup de cœur) pour une petite semaine l'an prochain.

I took up the opportunity to brush up my German even if Swiss German can be very tricky to understand. At least I learnt new local words. We discovered new habits for example buying taxed garbage bags. This was implemented to force people to recycle more and it works very well even if locals complain about the high price of these bags that are compulsory for rubbish that is not recycled. And last but not least we tried local specialities such as späzlis, röstis, home-made cordons bleus... We had such a good time we are thinking of going back to Valais (our favorite canton so far) for a week next year.

Andalou Naturals natural glow 3 in 1 treatment

Voici une petite revue de ce produit que j'utilise le soir depuis plusieurs semaines déjà, le Natural Glow 3 in 1 treatment de Andalou Naturals. Le produit est conditionné dans un flacon pompe très pratique. Une pression permet de couvrir tout le visage.

Here is a review of the Natural Glow 3 in 1 treatment from Andalou Naturals that I have been using at night for the past few weeks. The product comes in a pump dispenser that is very practical. One pump gives you the right amount to cover your whole face.

C'est un mélange d'huiles mais malgré ma peau plutôt grasse je l'apprécie beaucoup car à condition de l'appliquer sur peau encore humide il rentre très bien dans la peau. Je l'applique même près des yeux et je n'ai eu aucun problème d'irritation ou de gonflement des paupières.

It is a mix of different oils but in spite of my rather oily skin, I really enjoy using it. The trick to make it sink it faster is to use it on still damp skin. I even apply it close to the eyes without any problem. I have not encountered any irritation or swelling of the eyelids.

Helianthus annuus (sunflower), argania spinosa (argan), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) and linum usitatissimum (flax) oils*, vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry), camelina sativa, borago officinalis (borage), punica granatum (pomegranate) and oenothera biennis (evening primrose) oils*, fruit stem cell and bioactive 8 berry complex*, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), camellia sinensis (white tea), aspalathus linearis (rooibos) and hibiscus rosa-sinensis extracts*†, citrus aurantium (petitgrain) and geranium maculatum oils

On voit bien que les premiers ingrédients sont de l'huile de tournesol (riche en vitamine E), de l'huile d'argan (bien contre les rides) et de l'huile de jojoba (très bien pour les peaux grasses car il pénètre très facilement).

As you can see the first ingredients are sunflower oil (rich in vitamin E), argan oil (perfect to fight wrinkles) and jojoba oil (good for oily skin as it sinks in easily).

Le tout a une odeur délicieuse, un mélange entre agrumes et rose je trouve.
It smell delicious, to me like a cross between a citrus fruit and a rose.

Il hydrate très bien la peau mais en ce qui me concerne pas d'effet bonne mine plus que ça. C'est également un bon produit si vous voulez vous masser le visage puisqu'il pénètre tout de même moins vite qu'une crème.
It hydrates very well but as for the 'glow' part, well I have not noticed anything different. It is also a good choice if you want to have a face massage as it stays on your skin longer than a cream.

On peut également l'utiliser sur les cheveux (j'ai essayé, c'est bien sur les pointes mais pas transcendant non plus, une huile plus basique fait très bien l'affaire) et sur les mains et les cuticules (pas essayé) d'où le nom de 3 en 1.
You can also use this multi-purpose product on your hair (I have tried on the ends, it's good but nothing a more basic oil couldn't do) and on hands and cuticles (I have not tried) hence it's 3 in 1 name.

Il n'est pas donné, environ 20 dollars mais comme d'habitude je l'avais acheté en promotion. Je trouve que c'est un bon produit si vous aimez les huiles, il contient des ingrédients intéressants pour la peau et est bio à 95%. Et en plus il sent délicieusement bon.
At around 20 dollars it is not cheap but as usual I got it on sale so keep your eyes open. I find that it is a good product if you like oils (I do!). It contains a lot of interesting ingredients for your skin and is 95% organic. And of course it smells divine.

Attention coussin rétro! / Retro cushion!

Aujourd'hui attention, coussin rétro. Il est très simple à réaliser, c'est un 'granny square' géant. Comme je ne m'y connais pas trop en crochet, je me suis servie de ce tutoriel  en anglais (mais peu importe, il suffit de regarder!). Il est très clair et en plus c'est un homme qui le présente, j'adore!

Il y a également des explications dans ce burda d'avril 2013.

 

Here is my lastest creation, a 'retro' cushion. It is in fact a giant 'granny square' so it is simple to make. As I am not very familiar with crochet techniques, I watched this tutorial to get it right. It is very clear and it is presented by a man, which of course I love! There are also some explanations in the April 2013 issue of Burda.

 

 

Pour le fil, au lieu du traditionnel coton j'ai utilisé des restes de holst garn supersoft dans les coloris maize, willow et un bleu pâle (je crois que c'était iced mais je n'ai plus l'étiquette), c'est donc du 100% laine. Au passage, je ne recommande pas cette laine pour les tricots qui pourraient être à même le corps car malgré son nom de supersoft je ne trouve pas qu'elle soit douce, même  pas au fil des lavages et en ce qui me concerne je ne porte que des manches longues sous un pull ou un gilet fait avec cette laine. Par contre, les couleurs sont à tomber et le prix reste abordable.

La housse du coussin est un recyclage d'une vielle nappe et j'ai cousu le carré de crochet après l'avoir réalisée. J'ai inséré une fermeture éclair sur l'un des côtés afin de pouvoir laver facilement la housse.

 

 

As for yarn, I moved away from traditional cotton and used up some remnants of holst garn supersoft in the colors maize, willow and a pale blue (I think it is 'iced' but I have lost the label), so it is made of 100% wool. While I'm at it, I wanted to point out that I do not recommend using this yarn to make garments that you may want to wear on bare skin. Contrary to its name, it is not supersoft, nor is it soft and in my experience it does not get much softer even after a number of washes. I personally always wear long sleeves under a cardigan or a pullover made from that yarn. But the colors are wonderful and it is affordable if not cheap.

I made the pillow case using the fabric of an old tablecloth and I sewed the crochet square afterwards.

I inserted a zipper in one of the sides so that it's easily washable.

Aujourd'hui on parle tricot, mais pas de torsades compliquées ou de motifs utilisant douze couleurs. Non, du simple, du vite fait, du qui plait aux enfants.

 

Today, let's talk knitting. But no cables or complicated colorwork here. No, just a simple quick project that kids love.

 

Voici une paire de chaussons à pompons réalisée en deux soirées. En photo on dirait que les deux pompons n'ont ni la même taille ni la même place sur le chausson mais rassurez-vous, il n'en est rien en réalité!

 

Here is a pair of pompom slippers made in two evenings only. On the picture the pompoms look as if they are not the same size and quite lopsided but rest assured, they are not so in person!



 

 

La laine vient du site Rebecca, un site allemand sur lequel j'achète parfois de la laine (il y a des soldes deux ou trois fois par an). Inutile de préciser que orange est la couleur préférée de l'enfant en question.

The yarn comes from the Rebecca site, a German site on which I sometimes purchase yarn (they hold sales two or three times a year). Needless to say that orange is the favorite color of the kid in question.

 

 

Le modèle vient de ce livre (en anglais) dans lequel on trouve des projets de tout niveau, du très facile au vraiment plus difficile. La première partie du livre est consacrée aux parents et grandparents de designers du monde du tricot et elle est plutôt sympa à lire aussi. On trouve le livre à prix cassé sur amazon.fr en ce moment.

 

The pattern comes from this lovely book which contains patterns for all levels from the most simple to the more complicated. The first half of the book is consecrated to the parents and grandparents of knitting designers and is also a nice read. The book is available from amazon.com for a low price.

Voici mes favoris du mois passé!
Here come my June favorites!


Tout d'abord un gros coup de cœur pour la gamme de shampooing et d'après-shampooing au citron et à l'arbre à thé de chez Desert Essence. Conçus pour les cheveux gras, ils les rendent légers et très très doux. Ce sont des produits de très bonne qualité à un prix vraiment bas (tout spécialement sur le site vitacost.com et en plus vous trouverez un code réduction en fin de message).

First I fell in love with the Lemon and Tea tree shampoo and conditioner from Desert Essence. They are designed for oily hair and make it light and super super soft. These are really good quality products that will not break the bank (especially if you buy them from vitacost and you will also find a coupon code at the end of this message) .

Côté maquillage j'ai redécouvert mon crayon milk de The All Natural Face. On l'estompe au doigt et appliqué dans le coin interne et sous l'arcade sourcilière il apporte beaucoup de lumière au regard. Comme il est mat il est tout de même discret et donne un effet naturel.

For makeup, I have rediscovered my Milk jumbo pencil from The All Natural Face. I blend it with my fingertips and use it in the inner corners of my eyes as well as just under the eyebrows. It brings a lot of light to the eyes but as it is matt, the effect remains natural.

Pour l'eye liner j'ai utilisé un trait de strumpet de J. Lynne avec un pinceau humide au ras de la paupière supérieure et inférieure. C'est une couleur à mi-chemin entre un marron et un gris qui va très bien avec les yeux marron je trouve. Il est très pigmenté et assez lumineux.

For my eye liner, I used Strumpet from J. Lynne that I applied with a wet brush on my upper and lower lashline. On the site it is described as a deep, smoky taupe suede with cool gray undertones and it really compliments brown eyes. It is very pigmented and quite luminous.
Pour les lèvres, j'ai beaucoup utilisé deux corails de chez Silk Naturals. Le premier est un gloss, Hubbub, et le second est un amplifying lip glaze, Bustle. Je ne les combine pas car Bustle a déjà un fini brillant.

For lips, I have favored two coral colors this month, both from Silk Naturals. The first one is a gloss, Hubbub and the second one is an amplifying lip glaze called Bustle. I don't combine them as Bustle has a glossy finish anyway.

Pour finir, j'ai utilisé tout le mois la poudre bronzante que j'ai récemment achetée chez Meow Cosmetics et je l'adore. Elle me donne un bronzage parfait tout en transparence avec un fini lumineux mais pas pailleté du tout.

To finish, I have continually been using the bronzer I recently purchased from Meow Cosmetics and it has not disappointed. It gives me a perfect transparent tan color with a dewy finish.
